Stop Bailiffs: Council Tax

The tax demand is wrong, dispute the liability amount with the council and they can vary the amount on the liability order.

Ask for more time to pay, official guidelines say bailiffs must "not press debtors into making unrealistic offers".

You are in a class of vulnerable people or receiving a prescribed benefit, you may be exempt from enforcement charges, apply for a detailed assessment.

Enforcement is having a profound impact on your health, approach your local councillor and ask the council to exercise its power to write off the liability.

Apply for a DRO or an IVA and your debt practitioner will contact the bailiffs and stop enforcement.

The date on the liability order is over six years, enforcement is invalid under section 9 of the Limitation Act 1980.

The date on the Notice of Enforcement is over one year, enforcement ceases to be exercisable.

Pay the liability amount direct to the council, the enforcement ceases to be exercisable under Section 17(1) of Schedule 4 of the Local Government Finance Act 1992.
